Speak With Confidence. Your Accent Is Not Everything.

Speak With Confidence

To be honest, it is hard work to have a good accent when you learn a second language. In fact, it is a bit of a nightmare.

You could start getting obsessed with your accent and that can really hold you back from using it as much as you should.

Have you felt that way learning English? Yes, it is not uncommon at all.  So here it is my bit of advice, or encouragement , if you want to take it.

Every native speaker speaks with an accent.

I know it may come as a bombshell to some English native speakers, cause some of them  are thoroughly convinced that their particular accent is the proper one (the legit one, an American would say)

So, if you are a Spaniard trying to speak with a good accent, here it from me; stop worrying OTT (over the top) and keep talking pronto.

This summer I have been hanging out with friends from Hawaii, Atlanta and California in the US. And then with friends from Yorkshire and the West Midlands in the UK. And do you know what? We have been teasing each other and making fun of our accents.

You have an a Spanish accent. So what? As long as you speak fluently and clearly, it is fine. If the other person does not need to make an additional effort to understand you, your accent is not a problem. Quite on the contrary, it can be very charming.

Do not be scared of speaking with an Ana Botella accent. You have got to start somewhere!
